One of America’s crowned jewels is the $20 Gold Lady Liberty. Produced from 1849-1907, this is the first time in American history that our government issued a 1 Oz gold coin. The unprecedented mass minting of these coins created an unquenching thirst for gold, that our government continuously produced to satisfy American citizens. For the first time ever American citizens were able to hold a gold coin that was as large as a silver dollar. These coins were quite the commodity and people used them daily as a medium of exchange for goods and services. As the pieces were heavily worn and tarnished over the years the coins can be in pretty bad shape.

However, in 1933 President Roosevelt mandated all American citizens turn in their gold coins. After the confiscation was completed, a mass melting took place, making the $20 Liberty almost non-existent. To find some of these coins today in brilliant uncirculated (BU) condition or better for the right price is very difficult to do, because all of them were once  in circulation. This offer will not last long (Just over spot). Become a proud owner of the $20 Gold Liberty in MS61 condition. Secure your order today!

Since the United States Mint’s inception in 1792, the Lady Liberty was the chosen emblem to represent universal freedom and democracy. Although many believed George Washington would be the face of American coinage, the Mint wanted a figure that would resonate across national lines. This figure needed to represent beauty and strength, while expressing the true value of freedom and the pursuit of happiness. The Lady Liberty embodied all of these attributes.

Different renditions of the Lady Liberty have graced platinum, gold and silver coins dating as far back as 1794. She can be seen walking with a flowing dress to wearing an Indian war bonnet. These various portrayals of our Lady Liberty are meant to illuminate the different aspects of the American way of life. Despite her ever changing appearance from one genre of coins to the next, what she symbolizes reigns supreme.
